Pink Prickly Pear

In which I am fucking awesome.

Oh sure, little old Estonian ladies could probably knit lace like this standing on their heads, but just let me toot my own horn a minute...

 

Mostly...

I've been learning how to knit socks on needles slightly larger than toothpicks.  No pictures to share as they're meant to be a present.  Well, if they turn out alright.  It's kind of like taking your first ever batch of cookies to a bake off or something.

I've also been spending a great deal of time ferrying Mini-Pear to various classes.  Driving is not conducive to knitting, but waiting for class to get out?  That's an excellent time to listen to a podcast and wrestle with the jumbo toothpicks.

Various Lists (a little mundane, but you're not just here for the profane, are you?)

Math class, Science class, Karate, 2 different flavored park days, 2 different flavored book clubs, Theatre class, Kids Fitness

The former are Mini-pear's various commitments this spring, the latter, my preferred podcasts at the moment.

a little bit of knit...

I'm not entirely happy with this hat.  You get a close up shot because I don't have a baby head to fill it with and it looks a little droopy without one.  From Debbie Bliss' Number One pattern book, it had entirely too much finishing to do.  Maybe all her patterns are like that.  I've never knit anything by her before.  In fact, it's my first hat.  The only thing I don't like is the peaked edge, and of course, that's what attracted me to the pattern in the first place.

I had to pick up stitches from the original brim and do a bunch of increase rows, before then knitting the peaked edge and then sewing that onto the new, bigger brim.  Is there a good reason why I did not simply start with the larger number of stitches around the brim and decrease as I went up?  The double brim action seemed awfully redundant to me.  Also (yeah, I'm really in a snit now), the pattern did not specify a number of peaks, just knit to fit and I think I crammed too many in, making the peaks overly floppy.  I could un-sew the thing and unravel the last peak or so, but that maybe me being overly perfectionistic (what an awkward sentence).  I'm knitting matching boots.  If they turn out according to plan I'll leave the hat alone.
